We’ve added a bunch of new goodies for you to earn on your Ranked climb this season, so we can’t wait to see you out there on the Rift while we try and reach new heights. In addition to the new theme, Ryze has also portaled his way onto our Rift and is making his grand debut! Thanks again, Faker, for the assist in helping us announce his arrival. We’ve also got a whole bunch of other quality of life updates and balance changes…Welcome to 6.1!

Reminder: content will be released throughout the patch.

NEW

NEW CHAMPIONS

RYZE, THE RUNE MAGE

Widely considered one of the most adept sorcerers on Runeterra, Ryze is an ancient, hard-bitten archmage with an impossibly heavy burden to bear. Armed with immense arcane power and a boundless constitution, he tirelessly hunts for World Runes—fragments of the raw magic that once shaped the world from nothingness. He must retrieve these artifacts before they fall into the wrong hands, for Ryze understands the horrors they could unleash on Runeterra.

Ryze will be released on April 17 at 00:01 UTC

WILD PASS

A new Wild Pass will be available once the patch launches, and fate is in your favor, because Wondertown Twisted Fate will be the skin for this wondrous Wild Pass! If you level up your Wild Pass to level 75, you’ll also be able to unlock Ascended Wondertown Twisted Fate, and earn tons of goodies on your way there! Additionally, a new Battle Ensign, Wondertown Twisted Fate, will be added to the Wild Pass Emporium, along with the limited-time return of Hexplorer Galio, Stargazer Karma, Ascended Stargazer Karma, Dream Raider Nasus, Ascended Dream Raider Nasus, Superhero Jayce, and Ascended Superhero Jayce!

DUAL NOVA

In our Patch Preview for this patch, we announced that in 6.1 we’d be introducing a special patch theme, Dual Nova! When you log in your home screen will transform into a magical galaxy, and you’ll be greeted by the fully lit up Challenger’s Star and the Adventure's Star. Surrounding them are sparkly constellations that you’ll be able to light up and earn rewards from as you play games. If you want to learn more about Dual Nova, check our article on it!

ADVENTURE’S STAR

As mentioned above and in our Dual Nova article, Adventure’s Star is still gathering cosmic energy, so it won’t be available until May 16, 00:00 UTC. Once it’s live, though, all casual modes will be there, and you’ll be able to earn points to upgrade your Battlefest medal by playing Adventure Mode games. You’ll be able to shine bright, reach challenger, and earn exclusive rewards along the way.

Once Adventure’s Star is live, you’ll notice a few of the matchmaking changes we’ve made. Your grade for each mode will be used as a matchmaking criteria for that mode. We’ve also made some matchmaking adjustments in ARAM and AAA ARAM. In 6.1, the likelihood of solo, duo, and trio parties being matched against full parties has been reduced to narrow the skill gap between the two teams. We’ll also be clamping down on win-trading parties in both of these modes this patch with some countermeasures.

RANKED SEASON

Ranked Season 17 will be launching on April 18 at 03:00 UTC+0 and will end in July 2025. To celebrate the season, a new Ranked skin, Glorious Airgrette Janna, will be blowing into the Reward Track for you to earn! Glorious Crown Ziggs, Glorious Orianna, Glorious Lulu, Glorious Jinx, and Glorious Tryndamere will also be making a return this season, so keep an eye out for notifications in the Ranked portal for more information.

RANKED UPDATES

With the arrival of Challenger’s Star, we’ve also made the following updates to Ranked Rewards:

  • Rewards are now easier to obtain, including the Ranked Reward skins, which will allow you to enjoy and focus more on your Ranked climb! It will now only take five games to earn them.
  • We’ve removed Season Rewards, Season Collections, Promotion Rewards, and Legendary Ranked Rewards.
  • The Ranked Store has been moved to the Collected Legends Redemption Store.
  • Added Weekly Rewards, Ranked Season Rewards, Legendary Season Rewards, and Beginner’s Rift Expedition to Main Modes.
  • Increased and improved the rewards available in the new, consolidated reward system.
  • Adjusted time to earn Ranked Season Skins, it will now take five games.
  • Added tier rewards and monthly ranking rewards for Legendary Ranked.
  • With the retirement of the Season Rewards system, Season Rewards Boost Cards will expire at the start of the new season, changing to XP boost cards!

Additionally, as we mentioned in our Annual Letter, we’re going to continue to take a look at the Ranked experience and make updates to improve it. We’ll continue to keep an eye on these and make adjustments as needed. The new mechanics for Patch 6.1 are:

  • Rising Star: Receive one bonus Mark when you win a Ranked game with an S rating in Gold or lower.
  • Remake for unbalanced team compositions: If your team composition is deemed unbalanced for Ranked, a remake vote will be triggered at the end of the champion selection phase. If a player on the team with the unbalanced composition votes to remake, the game will be terminated and the EOG summary displayed. Conditions for a remake vote are:
    • Your team is not a full party.
    • 4 or more selected champions are marksmen/mages.

And last but certainly not least, we’re also introducing a new rank-up event. If you rank up to Masters during the event, you’ll earn the title “A Master’s Mark: Trailblazer,” which can be used for the rest of this season. You’ll also receive the Ranked Wings cosmetic, which will be displayed in various locations on your profile during the season and permanently displayed in your Season Trophy Case.

LEGENDARY RANKED UPDATES

Legendary Ranked, where the best of the best rise to the top, has also received the following updates this patch:

  • Updated tier names. Warrior has now been removed and the following are renamed:
    • Commander → Legendary Commander
    • Guardian → Legendary Master
    • Vanquisher → Legendary Grandmaster
    • Immortal → Legendary Challenger
    • The Legend tier remains unchanged
  • We’ve also added the Legendary Energy system. When you get an S or A rating or achieve Great Player in a game, you’ll now earn more Legendary Energy. The better you play, the more energy you will earn.
  • We’ve made adjustments to the Legendary Ranked champion pool. Instead of the current Champion Score of 1,000 or higher, you can now use any champion with an all-time highest Champion Score of 1,000 or higher, giving you more flexibility in your champion choices.
  • We’re introducing a new bonus to welcome players to Legendary Ranked! There will be Mark-loss protection for your first loss of the season.
  • Lastly, we’ve adjusted Legendary Ranked tier carry-over rules. Your Legendary Ranked tier and final Ranked tier in the previous season will now grant Legendary Point bonuses at the start of a new season.

CHAMPION SCORE SYSTEM

With some of our adjustments to Legendary Ranked, we also wanted to take a look at Champion Score, and make sure it was a competitive system. We’ve made the following adjustments:

  • We’re decreasing the base Champion Score obtainable in lower Legendary Ranked tiers and increased the weight of Legendary Ranked Factor in comparison to S15.
  • We’re lowering the base Champion Score obtainable in all Ranked tiers and adjusted the Game Score and Game Performance Score weightages. Fewer games are now needed to reach maximum Champion Score.
  • We’re adding the Legendary Challenge, available on Saturdays and Sundays after Legendary Ranked starts. You can earn bonus Champion Score, Legendary Ranked Factor, and Legendary Energy in Legendary Challenge. These bonuses have a separate upper limit distinct from the original obtainment limits of each rank and will count toward your ranking on the leaderboard.
  • We’re also revamping the Lane Icons and increasing them from five to eight different icons. The Lane Level system remains unchanged.
  • Levels 4 and 5 have been added to Master of Versatility. Go challenge yourself and reach even greater heights!

COLLECTED LEGENDS: NEW SEASON, NEW GAMEPLAY

We’ve made the following updates for this Collected Legends Season:

  • Added new patch rewards, including Chroma skins, exclusive Companions, and other exciting rewards.
  • Rewards are now easier to obtain and there are even more rewards available now! For every card set you complete, you will receive a Surprise Chest. Collect all five card sets in a collection to obtain the grand reward for that collection and unlock the next collection.
  • It’s now easier to obtain the cards you want! The probability of duplicate cards dropping in card packs, especially duplicate Gold cards dropping in Prismatic Card Packs, has been greatly reduced.
  • Recurring Reward Chests: If you earn all three grand rewards in the current phase before the next phase is available, you'll be switched over to a Recurring Collection, a new feature where you can repeatedly earn chests for rewards.
  • More Surprise Easter Eggs have been added. Game Reward card packs now have a chance to trigger Easter Eggs. When triggered, you will receive Easter Egg bonuses when claiming the card packs.
  • Crafting cards for your collections is now easier with the convenient "Craft All" button on the card set screen. You can now craft several cards with a single tap as long as you have enough Omnishards.
  • Opening card packs now takes less time with the handy "Open All" button that lets you open more than one card pack at the same time.

ANTI-CHEAT

  • We're continuing to increase the capabilities of our anti-cheat system, Embedded Vanguard, to combat cheating in Wild Rift. Starting soon after the launch of this patch, if we detect a cheater in a match, that match will be terminated with no wins or losses distributed to unaffiliated players, the cheater will be banned.
  • You can read more about Embedded Vanguard and our anti-cheating efforts on Wild Rift here.

CUSTOMIZED BUTTONS FOR ALL MODES

  • We’ve added a new “Champion Controls” tab to settings - Controls and UI:
    • "Quick cast empowered attacks," "Cast on button press", "Flash Combo", and "Manual Aim Time Limit" have been moved to the new tab. "Joystick Dead Zone (Rumble's Flamespitter)" has also been added.
  • Joystick Dead Zone (Rumble’s Flamespitter):
    • Adjusts the size of the joystick's dead zone when Rumble casts Flamespitter. When casting Flamespitter, Rumble will stop moving if the joystick moves into the dead zone. He will start moving again when the joystick moves out of the dead zone.
  • Changed the "Quick cast empowered attacks" setting from an on-off toggle to a set of three options:
    • Off, Champion (Default), All
  • "Manual Aim Time Limit" (for Viktor's Hextech Ray and Rumble's The Equalizer): When enabled, the indicator displays a countdown timer.
