NEW CHAMPIONS

SMOLDER, THE FIERY FLEDGLING
Hidden amongst the craggy cliffs of the Noxian frontier, under the watchful eyes of his mother, a young dragon is learning what it means to be heir to the Camavoran imperial dragon lineage. Playful and eager to grow up, Smolder looks for any excuse to practice his burgeoning abilities. Though he’s still a fledgling, his skills are nothing to sneeze at, easily setting fire to anything that burns.
Smolder will be released on January 22 at 00:01 UTC.
RANKED SEASON 20
New year, new goals, new season to climb. Ranked Season 20 will begin on January 23, 2026 at 03:00 (UTC+0) and will end in April 2026, as always keep an eye on the Ranked queue entry interface for when the season will end. With the new season we will of course have a new reward for you to earn, Glorious Eminence Teemo!

EVENTS
SMOLDER LANDS IN THE RIFT!
RAWR! Smolder is making his arrival! Celebrate with this special arrival event.
Smolder Lands in the Rift! will begin on January 22 at 00:01 UTC
RIFT CHANGES
IONIA RIFT
The ancient spirit realm whispers, and the First Lands call. A new patch’s curtain will slowly rise across the isles of Runeterra, Ionia. Are you ready to write a new legend upon this land that reveres inner strength and harmonious coexistence? Let’s jump in and see what this new Rift holds for you.
BATTLEFIELD ADJUSTMENTS
TERRAIN CHANGES
To improve competitive fairness and optimize the overall pacing of the game, we’ve made substantial optimization adjustments to the Rift’s terrain:
Jungle reshaped for fairer contests: We’ve specifically adjusted the shape of the Blue Sentinel camp. This change is intended to balance access to epic monsters and neutral resources for both the red and blue sides, ensuring a more equal footing in resource contests.
Wall slimming, reduced control burden: We adjusted the thickness and length of walls across multiple jungle monster camps and jungle areas, increasing the actual walkable space. This not only makes champion movement smoother, but also prevents your actions from being constrained during fights in tight terrain.
Path optimization, smoother roaming: Through “slimming” walls and fine tuning their layout, support and roaming paths between lanes will become more fluid. This effectively improves cross-lane coordination efficiency, making rotations and support plays more strategic.
Clearer vision mechanics, blind spots removed: The optimized map provides clearer vision. Recommended warding positions have been clarified, aiming to make gameplay interactions more transparent and controls smoother.
TURRET ADJUSTMENTS
Mechanic:
When the number of champions within a turret’s attack range is 4 or more, a new multi-champion turret dive protection mechanic is activated.
Increase turret Armor and Magic Resist.
For each additional enemy champion, turret damage is increased by 25%.
When turret plating falls off, the multi-champion turret dive protection mechanic is removed.
Mechanic:
Inner Turret Attack Damage: 240 → 200
Inhibitor Turret Attack Damage: 260 → 200
When the turret’s target is a champion, the damage stacking efficiency is increased.
When the target is a champion, each attack independently adds bonus damage.
First attack: 100%; second attack: 150% (unchanged from the previous patch)
Third attack: 215%; fourth attack: 300% (maximum stacks capped at 300%)
When the turret’s target is a champion, attack speed is adjusted to 1s per attack (previously 1.2s), and damage stacking efficiency is increased.
When the turret is empowered, projectile visuals are optimized.
When the turret reaches maximum damage, additional visual effects are added.
Gold gained for destroying an inner turret: 450 → 350
Gold gained per player on the team for destroying an inner turret: 100 → 75
BARON NASHOR
Baron Nashor has received updated visuals and abilities, and Hand of Baron (the minion buff granted after defeating Baron Nashor) has returned to its classic gameplay behavior.
Mechanic:
When only one champion is near Baron Nashor, Baron’s damage will apply Baron’s Gaze to that champion, reducing their movement speed and the damage they deal to Baron. The damage reduction scales with Baron Nashor’s remaining percentage health.
Adjustments to the Baron’s Gaze mechanic would significantly shorten the time required for multiple champions to defeat Baron. To keep this duration within a reasonable range, Baron Nashor’s health has been increased accordingly:
Base Health: 9500 → 12500
Health per level: 500 → 650
After defeating Baron Nashor, all players on the victorious team gain the Hand of Baron buff:
Empowers nearby allied minions
Grants accelerated recall
Grants bonus Attack Damage, Ability Power, Armor, and Magic Resistance
Mechanic:
Baron Nashor’s basic attacks no longer apply Baron’s Gaze to targets.
After defeating Baron Nashor, newly spawned allied minion waves are no longer automatically empowered.
RIFT HERALD
Enchanted Ensemble is removed and the Rift Herald is Back!
Mechanic:
At 6 minutes into the match, a neutral epic monster, the Rift Herald, will spawn in the Baron pit.
Weak points will periodically appear on the Rift Herald’s back, attacking these weak points deals additional true damage to the Rift Herald.
Reward:
Whoever dealt the final blow to Rift Herald can summon it to assist in attacking enemy turrets.
After successfully charging into a turret once, the Herald will enter a weakened state. While weakened, the Herald can no longer charge at turrets and can only perform basic attacks.
ICE DRAGON
Considering overall gameplay experience and compatibility with the new Rift, we have removed the Ice Dragon from the Ionia Rift.
Mechanic:
Ice Dragon will not spawn on the Ionia Rift.
CREST OF INSIGHT/CREST OF CINDERS PICKUP MECHANIC ADJUSTMENTS
To better fit the new terrain and avoid accidental pickups, we’ve shortened the pickup time of the Crown of Insight / Crown of Cinders and adjusted their pickup range.
Mechanic:
Crown of Insight / Crown of Cinders pickup time: 1.6s → 0.8s
Pickup range of the sharing circle adjusted accordingly.
SPIRIT FLOWERS
Mechanic:
When an allied champion dies, or when a large jungle monster in your jungle is killed by an enemy champion, a Spirit Flower will spawn near the death location. The flower becomes collectible after 5 seconds.
Approaching an allied Spirit Flower will automatically collect it, granting a small amount of gold and mana restoration.
Spirit Blossom Flowers can exist for up to 90 seconds, after which they will automatically disappear.
WIND ZONE
During the laning phase, we’ve introduced a Wind Field mechanic for mid lane players to help them roam and provide support more efficiently.
Mechanic:
From 2 to 6 minutes into the match, one way accelerating wind zones will appear in the passages on both sides of the mid lane turrets.
Entering your team’s wind zone and moving in its designated direction grants a movement speed bonus.
Moving against the wind zone’s direction, or engaging in combat with enemy champions, will immediately remove the movement speed bonus.
GATES (Previously Enchanted Gates)
We’ve added a charge system to mid-game Gates, allowing up to two teammates to use a portal at the same time. In the late game, portals that span across the jungle will continue to use a cooldown-based system and can only be used by one player, limiting their maximum impact.
From 7:30 - 10:30, Gates leading from the base to the jungle gain a new charge system. The portal generates 1 charge every 10 seconds, storing up to 2 charges.
When the Gates has available charges, it can be used, with each teleport consuming 1 charge. When 2 charges are available, two teammates may use the Gates simultaneously.
SOULFLOWERS (Previously Enchanted Mushrooms)
Enchanted Mushrooms have received updated visuals in the Ionia Rift, transforming into Soulflowers beneath turrets. At the same time, we have slightly reduced the gold they grant.
Stats:
Gold per Soulflower under outer turrets: 2 gold (unchanged)
Gold per Soulflower under inner turrets: 3 gold → 2 gold
Gold per Soulflower under inhibitor turrets: 5 gold → 3 gold
JUNGLE SPIRIT
We’ve reduced the health of the Jungle Spirit to make it easier to deal with, and have also lowered its gold reward on defeat.
Mechanic:
Basic attacks required to defeat the jungle Vision Spirit: 3 → 2
Gold gained for defeating the jungle Vision Spirit: 30 → 20

ARENA
Welcome to Arena! This is a mega update for us, and we’re expanding the Arena inside and out. We’re also adding lots of anticipated content like: Prismatic items, new maps, new Augments, a revival mechanic, Hextech portal mechanics, Guest of Honor appearances, and the long-awaited 16-player matches, plus extra LNY Easter eggs waiting to be discovered! On top of all of that, we’ve also added a replay system for Arena, and we hope this feature lets you share your highlight moments with friends.
Team upgrade and Game tempo Adjustments
The original 8-player battles have been upgraded to 16 players, bringing more opponents and more combat possibilities. As the number of participants increases, the round health-loss pacing has been redesigned accordingly, extending the average match duration from 9 rounds to 14 rounds.
Newly Added Prismatic Items and Legendary Items
In this update, over 40 new Prismatic items have been added, and they will be obtained in Prismatic Item rounds in a choose 1 of 3 format. In addition, you can also purchase Prismatic Eggs in the shop to open a choose 1 of 3 opportunity. Additionally, Legendary items such as Sword of Blossoming Dawn and Overlord's Bloodmail can be purchased directly from the shop. Soul Weep and Dawncore have been upgraded to Prismatic items, granting more powerful effects. Below are some of the Prismatic and Legendary items:

Item System Revamp
Items in this mode provide reduced stats compared to other modes.
In this mode, you can purchase 6 items. Legendary items can be sold at full price, while Prismatic items sell for 2000 gold.
We have removed the boots enchantment system in this mode. Champions will be granted a unique pair of boots at the start of the match.
Popular enchantments such as Quicksilver, Zhonya’s Hourglass, and Gargoyle Stoneplate can be purchased as Legendary items. After purchase, they occupy a normal item slot. Once you own an active item, you cannot purchase other active items.

When a revived teammate is defeated again, the enemy will no longer be granted takedown credit or gold income.
Hexgate
Each map edge has two portals that allow teleportation between each other, increasing champions’ room for kiting.
Guest Mechanism
During a guest round, one guest will be randomly selected from 10 guests, providing a match-wide buff (for example, Vladimir grants all champions a random augment). Battlefield mechanics include Nothing Happens, Resolute, League of Draven, and others, which will affect the pacing of subsequent matches and strategic decision-making.
“The Fortune Beast Arrives!” Easter Egg
Cute Companions will fight alongside you and your friends. During the event period, a limited time Easter egg gameplay will be available, granting more gold, augment cards, and items, for a more exhilarating match experience.
