/dev: Creating Wild Rift’s Battle Pass

The Wild Pass arrives soon! Join Wild Rift’s revenue lead for a transparent peek into our approach to monetization.

Later today, we’ll be debuting Wild Rift’s battle pass, which we’re calling the Wild Pass! Basically, we’re giving you more stuff just for playing, and if you want, you can upgrade for even more.

There are more details below, but first, we wanted to take a bit of time to share our philosophies around monetization in Wild Rift—we’d like to make tough subjects like this as transparent as balance or game design!

MAKING MONEY MOVES

The release of our first Wild Pass will coincide with the start of Ranked Season 2. Even though we’re on a new platform, it doesn’t mean we’re taking a brand new approach to monetization. In fact, we’re still guided by the same exact principles we’ve applied to League of Legends on PC!

Our foremost priority is making a great game and making sure you have memorable and meaningful experiences—even if you choose to never spend. Our hope, when making things like emotes, skins, or the Wild Pass, is that these are products you’re excited to purchase and engage with because they add to your experience in Wild Rift.

We never want you to feel like you need to spend in order to remain competitive in the game. In that spirit, we’ve packed the Wild Pass with a variety of optional content and currencies to help you show off to your enemies, get closer to unlocking that Poro Energy skin chest, finally nab those specific accessories that you can’t wait to flash, and flaunt your style on the Rift.

WILD PASS TL;DR

Here’s how the Wild Pass works:

At the start of the ranked season, we’ll be launching the Wild Pass, which you can find in a menu from the home screen.

It works just like you’d expect, leveling up as you play and rewarding you with skins, currencies, icons, emotes, baubles, and other goodies along the way.

You can upgrade your Wild Pass at any point for 590 WC to claim all the content you've earned so far, and if you don't decide to upgrade, all players can still earn Blue Motes and Poro Coins from the pass totally free of charge.

There's also the Wild Pass Elite, which comes with some extra missions, levels, and XP to help speed up your progress. You can pick this up for an additional 400 WC on top of the base Wild Pass.

Reaching level 50 on the Wild Pass grants an exclusive skin, Hexplorer Jax, to show the world how far you’ve come. But wait, there’s more! You can also earn extra bonus rewards to add more content to your collection.

CLOSING THE DEAL

If the upgraded Wild Pass isn’t really your style this time around, that’s okay! Just like with other parts of the game, we’re committed to improving the experience together with you, so please share your thoughts with us. We love hearing from you to understand what things you like and want to see more of, as well as what you find particularly painful or unappealing. In the coming patches, with your help, we’ll be exploring some new content types that will allow you to better personalize your experience and snag more of the content you love.
