Upcoming Changes to Guilds and GvG

With Season 3 of GvG coming to a close, we’re sharing an update discussing some of your feedback and the changes coming for Season 4!

It’s been a minute since we’ve sat down and talked about GvG and guilds, but we’re back and ready to chat! The last time we talked we asked for your feedback. We’ve been listening to your responses and want to share some of the updates and quality of life changes we’ve been working on.

WHAT WE’VE LEARNED

Since the launch of guilds and GvG, we’ve heard a lot of feedback that we’re going to discuss, but the main thing we heard from you all was that you enjoyed queuing up and playing premades with your guild mates. We want to focus on what you enjoy most, so we’re going to provide you a simpler track to reward you and your guild mates for doing what you like.

We originally created GvG to go along with guilds. The goal was to let you and your guildies pair up with a champion and explore some classic Runeterran rivalries each week. At the end of the week, you’d go head-to-head vs another guild in a final showdown that decided the winner.

However, over the course of the different rivalries and GvG seasons we heard from a lot of you that certain aspects of these rivalries and showdowns weren’t enjoyable. In addition to that we heard that a lot of the stories were hard to follow along with, and there were too many rules and mechanics that were complicated and hard to understand.

We never wanted GvG to be confusing or challenging to understand. It was always meant to be a place for friends and communities to come together in competition, not struggle to figure out how things worked each week. Due to this, after Season 3, we're replacing the current form of GvG with a whole new guild season that is simpler and has more of the rewards you know and love.

THE FUTURE

While we’re replacing GvG, guilds will continue to be in the game, so you and your guildies are stuck with each other. In addition to guilds staying, we know a lot of the reason you joined and enjoyed GvG week after week was because of the Trophy Track, so it will also be here to stay. We’ll continue to offer you some of the goodies you know and love in S4 that you can add to your collection, in addition to some new ones that will let you bond with your guild mates even further when you play together.

In addition to new rewards, we’ll be simplifying the Trophy Track and missions, so you and your friends can just hop into a game and earn rewards while doing it! The Trophy Track and guilds will still have seasons and a theme. Season 4 of our revamped guilds will begin on September 16 at 08:01 GMT+8, and last 19 weeks.

GRAB YOUR GUILDIES

Before GvG ends and we journey to a thriving and progressive city, we’ll be having one last hoorah to celebrate everyone who participated and provided us feedback. From September 16 - October 1, you and your guidies will be able to earn a one-time reward. And don’t worry, if you’re not in a guild right now, as long as you join one before October 1, you’ll be eligible to receive the reward as well.

As we said last time, guilds are for you! We’re still interested in having a competitive outlet for the guilds, but our exploration in this space is still in the early stages. So for now we’re going to go back to the drawing board. Thank you for all your patience and feedback as we worked on these features, we couldn’t make new content without it, and will continue to keep all your feedback in mind as we work on new features. Also, once Season 4 launches, please let us know how you and your friends feel about the new state of guilds, and the Trophy Track adjustments, we’re always listening!

See ya on the Rift!
